This high school background is used in BYOB (Build Your Own Brawler) an original java web game. The player roams down the high school hallway battling zombie jocks. The boss at the end is a football couch lich.
This background was made completely in photoshop. I made an early concept of this level, and then the team decided on the ratio of playfield and backdrop. I changed the perspective to be looking toward the player's front.
The creation of this level was made in stages. Initially, I designed the walls to be tileable at the width of the game window, with boss frames at the end. But the engine ended up just using a continuous image. Overall, the first hallway design was clean and the end was unfinished.
The next stages were finishing up the end frames and grunging up the entire scene. It was a process of scene destruction. The final stage was adding blood to the hallway and making some final level edits.
